Alara Sophia was born June 2, 2013 at 10:43am, 7lbs and 19 1/2 inches in Boston, MA.
She’s perfectly healthy and beautiful, but I mean really, look at all that HAIR!
Two years later and I still haven’t cut it 🙂
We picked out her name, Alara Sophia, well before she was born. We knew we wanted a Turkish name that would also be acceptable here in the U.S. While searching Turkish girl names, I instantly fell in love with the name Alara. I just thought it was so pretty. There are different meanings to the name, one being a mythological Altaic water fairy. Also, if you break it down in Turkish “al” means red and “ara” means to make things beautiful, or an ornament, therefore meaning red ornament. I also liked the name Sophia as it’s becoming a very popular name in the U.S. My father in law’s mother was named Safiye, which is pronounced very similar to Sophia. There was a period of time where we couldn’t decide whether to spell it Sofia or Sophia, but in the end I think we chose the perfect name for her.
